Richard Meggenberg, age 79, of Savanna, Illinois, died Thursday, December 8, 2005 at Big Meadows Nursing Home, Savanna. His body will be cremated and a memorial service will be held at a later date.
Richard was born October 4, 1926 in Dubuque, Iowa, the son of Richard and Rosemary (Lightfoot) Meggenberg, Sr. He attended Washington High School in Dubuque, Iowa.
Richard married Diane Freese in Dubuque, Iowa. He worked for the Railroad as a Switchman in the Dubuque area for many years. Richard enjoyed fishing, mowing grass, and he loved horses.
Richard will be missed by his daughter, Angela (Jim) Wakefield of Savanna; his son, Rick (Rene) Meggenberg of Rockford, Illinois; three grandchildren; and one sister, Leona Meggenberg.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Diane and two sisters.
