Richard A. Kline passed away peacefully at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf, Iowa, on Friday, the 9th of May, 2015, surrounded by his family. Richard was born on September 8, 1931, at the St. Elizabeth Hospital in Lincoln, Nebraska. His parents were Charles W. and Opal (Benjamin) Kline. He graduated from Northeast High School in 1949. Richard married Marlyn A. Kritner on June 14, 1951, in Lincoln, Nebraska.
Richard was in the Naval Reserve for a time, then worked at Lincoln TV Center in the early years of marriage. In 1956, he began working as a Special Agent for the CB & Q Railroad in Chicago, Illinois. He moved to Savanna, Illinois, with his family in 1962 and continued his job as a Special Agent with CB & Q, which later became the Burlington Northern Railroad. Richard retired from the railroad in 1987.
He is the father of Greg, Janis, and Gary. He is preceded in death by his parents; his son, Greg; and sister, Marilyn. He is survived by his wife, Marlyn, and his children, Janis and Gary; 8 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; and an older brother, John B. Kline of Lincoln, Nebraska.
Richard was a strong Christian believer and was active as a pastor for many years at Bethesda Bible Church in Savanna, Illinois. In later years, he was a member of River of Life Church in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, where he also served as a deacon. Richard loved living on the bluff over the Mississippi River and taking care of his home. He loved reading his Bible and praying, and was always available to his family and friends to help in any way. His wisdom and wit were always evident to everyone and he was a pillar in the House of God. His greatest desire was to see his children and grandchildren place their trust in Jesus Christ. He was a wonderful example of how to live a sacred life. He will be greatly missed.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, May 13, 2015, at Law-Jones Funeral Home, Savanna, Illinois. Burial will take place in Savanna Township Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 13, 2015, prior to the service at the funeral home. Family and friends are invited to share in Richard’s life at
