Richard “Rip” Lee Kaufman, 65, of Thomson, gained his new heavenly legs on July 10, 2024, at MercyOne in Clinton, IA surrounded by his loving family. A visitation will be held July 20th from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. at Law Jones Funeral Home in Thomson, IL, with a service to begin at 12:00 p.m. and burial at Grove Hill Cemetery in Morrison, IL to follow.
Rich was born in Savanna, IL to Lyle and Irene Kaufman on September 30, 1958. Rich grew up in Thomson, where he attended school and graduated with the Thomson High School class of 1976. After high school, Rich worked in the roofing and siding business for about 10 years with his uncles, before working for the United States Postal Service where he eventually retired from in 2017.
One thing that Richard took pride in was being a father to his three children, Ryan, Kayla, and Brandon. Rich also enjoyed spending time being "Bumpa" to his four grandchildren. On May 5, 2007, he began his 17 years of marriage to his love, Janet Ingersoll. After Richard’s accident in 2021, the whole family came together to support him during his medical trips and rehabilitation along with all the challenges that came with it. He was even able to go on one last ride through his farm with his son, Brandon, not long before his passing.
Richard was known to be an advocate of hunting and the organizations that are associated with it. He could always be found at the Waterfowl USA, Pheasants Forever, and Ducks Unlimited Banquets held each year. He wanted his passion for wildlife to be shared with those around him. On September 1, 2021, Rich took part in his last field goose hunt with his sons, which ended up being one of his best hunts.
Richard is survived by his beloved wife, Janet Kaufman; three children, Ryan Kaufman, Kayla Russell, and Brandon (Shaelynn) Kaufman; four grandchildren, Brayden Powell, Luke Kaufman, Raeleigh Kaufman, and Easton Russell; one niece, one nephew, and his best friend, Mark Hildebrandt. Richard is preceded by his parents, Lyle and Irene Kaufman, and brother, Dan Kaufman.
