81-year-old Richard E. (Dick) Dasenbrock of Savanna passed away Tuesday, January 29, 2013 at Big Meadows Nursing Home following a short illness. Cremation Rites have been accorded. He is survived by a sister-in-law, a nephew and 2 nieces and many, many good friends.
Dick was born October 1, 1931 in Lockport, IL and graduated in 1949 from Lockport High School. He went on to receive a Bachelor’s Degree in English from the University of Illinois. Dick also served in the United States Army as a Broadcast Specialist. Following his discharge he worked at radio stations in New York, Joliet, IL and Sauk City, WI before moving to Savanna in September, 1976. At WCCI he served as Continuity/Production Manager, staff announcer, play-by-play of football, basketball, volleyball and baseball and hosted the popular Big Band Show for many years prior to retiring in 1996.
He had traveled extensively throughout the world and was a voracious reader. He was currently serving on the Savanna Township Library Board. Having grown up on the South side of Chicago, he enjoyed following his beloved White Sox the highlight of which was attending a World Series game in 2005 and bringing a championship back to Chicago.
