Richard Owen “Dick” Colehour, age 79, of Mount Carroll, Illinois, passed away Saturday, November 19, 2005 at FHN Memorial Hospital, Freeport, Illinois. Funeral Services will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 23, 2005 at the First Baptist Church in Mt. Carroll, Illinois with Reverend Robert Ziebarth officiating. Burial will take place in Oak Hill Cemetery, Mt. Carroll, with full Military Rites. Friends may call from 5:00 – 9:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 22, 2005 at the Frank-Law-Jones Funeral Home, Mt. Dick was born January 13, 1926 in Genoa, Illinois, the son of Clarence and Francis (Hoover) Colehour. He attended Mt. Carroll Schools and graduated from the East Rockford Senior High School, Rockford, Illinois with the Class of 1944. Dick then enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served in the South Pacific aboard the LST 586 during WWII. After the war Dick graduated from the Chicago School of Business in 1948. On June 5, 1955, Dick married Evelyn Haines at the East Jordan Church near Polo, Illinois.
Dick joined the family Grain Elevator Business, Colehour Elevator, of Mt. Carroll, in 1948. He loved his family and his work. He enjoyed farming and being part of the Mt. Carroll Community. Most of all Dick enjoyed dancing, and instructing dance, with his wife Evelyn. Dick was a member of the First Baptist Church of Mt. Carroll, the Mt. Carroll American Legion, the Savanna Moose Lodge, the Son’s of the American Revolution, the Mt. Carroll Cyrus Masonic Lodge #188 and the Tebala Shrine, Freeport.
Dick will be deeply missed by his wife, Evelyn Colehour of Mt. Carroll; two daughters, Cathleen F. (Hugh O’Neill) Colehour of Peterborough, Ontario and Susan (Michael) Johnson of Fort Collins, Colorado; his son, Charles R. (Tressie) Colehour of Sharpsburg, Georgia; and a sister in-law, Wylma Colehour of Mt. Carroll; a granddaughter, Nicole Johnson of Fort Collins, Colorado.
Dick is preceded in death by a daughter at birth, Elizabeth Ann, his brother, Fred, and both parents.
