Richard “Dick” Collins, of Savanna, IL, passed away Tuesday, October 4th. Funeral Service will be held at 6:00 p.m. Friday, October 14, at the Law Jones Funeral Home in Savanna. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
Richard was born April 16, 1950, son of John and Meredith (Schrunk) Collins. He grew up in Savanna, and attended Savanna schools. Right out of high school Dick joined the United States Marine Corps. After leaving the Marines, Dick came back to Savanna, where he met the love of his life, Barbara Goss. The couple hit it off, and got married on October 9th, 1969. Together, Richard and Barbara raised four children and celebrated forty-four years of marriage.
Dick worked for Milwaukee Railroad for many years. After which he worked construction jobs around Savanna and the surrounding area. Dick had quite a long list of customers, and worked jobs for people all over town. Even late into his life, Dick was always willing to help you with your handyman project. Dick was a talented woodworker. He made many wood sculptures and cutouts that decorated his home, and the homes of his loved ones and friends.
Dick loved spending time with his family. While his children were growing up they spent many summer days camping, barbecuing, and spending time boating up and down the river. Anyone who knew Dick knows he had a strong personality. Richard live life the way he wanted.
Richard will be dearly missed by his four children, Richard Collins of Savanna, IL, Jennifer (Reggie) Randolph of Savanna, Theresa (Tully) McAuliffe of Savanna, and JoAnn Collins of Savanna; five grandchildren, Jordyn and Peyton Long, Justin (Megan) Ferguson, Jaron (Kylee) Ferguson, and Damian Sedivy; eight great-grandchildren; and his siblings, Judy Getz of Grimes, IA, and Mike (Janice) Collins of Muscatine, IA.
Richard is preceded in death by his wife, Barbara; his parents, John and Meredith; and his sister, Vicki Dickson.
