Rex V. Bowman, born on April 12, 1951, to Herman and Betty (Schnitzler) Bowman, passed away on Friday, June 21, at University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics. He grew up in Savanna, where he attended Savanna Schools and began his working life at a young age in local restaurants, washing dishes and serving customers.
Rex was known for his adventurous spirit. He worked a variety of jobs throughout his lifetime, embodying a true traveler’s heart by exploring the world and living in places like Texas, Hawaii, and New Orleans. Rex liked playing scratch off lottery tickets, and once won $50,000.
Affectionately known as a character by all who knew him, Rex lived life on his terms. He took pleasure in working out and swimming. Rex had a keen eye for bargains and loved spending his days visiting thrift shops and hunting for sales. When Rex was at home, he always had Fox News on the T.V. He loved animals and rescued many dogs and cats throughout his life, providing them with loving homes. Above everything, Rex treasured his family deeply. Rex’s unique personality, generous spirit, and love for life will be remembered fondly by his family and friends. He will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
A private family graveside service will be held at a later date.
Rex is survived by his sister Cleo Haynes; his brother Herman (Mary Pat) Bowman; six nephews, James (Dana) Haynes, Dustin (Jody) Sedivy, Beau Sedivy, Shawn Bowman, Brandon (Amy) Sedivy and Luka Law; one niece, Kristin Bowman; ten great nieces and nephews, and many cousins. Rex is preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Betty; and his sister, Gail.
