Rebecca "Becky" Wiebenga

Rebecca “Becky” Wiebenga, age 55, of Savanna passed away Tuesday, July 6, 2021 at St. Anthony Hospital in Rockford after a cancer diagnosis just two weeks ago. In a selfless way, Becky devoted her life to her family and her work.

Becky was born September 10, 1965 in Clinton, Iowa, the daughter of Howard and Carol (Chandler) Wiebenga. She is a 1983 graduate of Thomson High School. In 1994, she gave birth to a son, Andrew Westerman. She was happy being a Mom.

Becky worked twenty-three years as a cook at Big Meadows Nursing Home in Savanna. She enjoyed making the meals taste like home-made. Becky was known as a hard-worker and always went the extra-mile for the residents of Big Meadows. In the Wiebenga family, Becky was famous for her chili, nobody could duplicate the recipe, and she never told!

She was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Savanna. Becky enjoyed bowling in the Mt. Carroll league, and even bowled on a team that placed at State. She also liked playing darts, watching NASCAR and spending time with her cats and dogs.

Becky will be dearly missed by her son, Andrew Westerman of Savanna; four siblings, Chris (Dawn) Wiebenga of Thomson, Mike (Jennifer) Wiebenga of St. Donatus, Iowa, Tricia (Mike Bates) Paxson of Mt. Carroll and Kathy Kent of Mesa, Arizona; and several nieces and nephews.

Becky is preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Dan Wiebenga, David Wiebenga and Chandler James; a sister, Vicki McCoy; brother-in-law, George McCoy; two nephews, Ryan Wiebenga and Michael “Moby” Allen; and three nieces, Kalene Wiebenga, Kaitlyn Wiebenga and Khloey Paxson.

A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 16, 2021 at the Law-Jones Funeral Home, Savanna with Father Thomas Doyle officiating. Burial will be in Lower York Cemetery, Thomson. Visitation will be held 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Thursday, July 15, 2021 at Law-Jones Funeral Home, Savanna.
