Rebecca Elizabeth Kerkove, known to friends and family alike as Becky, passed on Sunday, May 4, 2025 at Mercy Medical in Clinton, Iowa following a series of illnesses. Becky was born to David and Marion (Krafft) Brown on November 6, 1946.
She spent her childhood with five siblings in Savanna, and she attended Oak Park Bible Church and Chestnut Park School. She shared many fond memories of her family, school, and church friends.
After high school, Becky found employment in manufacturing. In 1970 she welcomed her first son, Robert William Brown. In 1978, she married Benny Kerkove. In 1979, her only daughter Beth Ellen was born. Five years later she had surprise twins, Blaine and Blake , and the family became known as the “6 B’s”.
After Benny passed in 2004, she moved to live with her daughter in Camanche, Iowa and began the second half of her life as a grandmother. Family was incredibly important to Becky. She loved her five grandchildren more than anything. She was a good mother to both her human and fur children, but Grandma was her favorite job. One of her favorite events every year was heading out to Old Mill Park for her Notz Family Reunion.
In 2023, she moved into Big Meadows in Savanna. She loved filling her days by watching “vintage” tv shows and game shows, chatting to family on the phone, visiting with friends and family, and enjoying her favorite snacks. Becky almost always had a radio playing her favorite country music at full blast. Becky is preceded in death by her mother and father, two sisters, Mary Ann and Martha, one brother, Jim, several beloved pets, and her husband, Benny.
She is survived by her sons, Robert (Cindy) Brown of Savanna, Blaine Kerkove of Milwaukee and Blake (Audrey) Kerkove of Savanna; daughter, Beth Kerkove of Sierra Vista, Arizona; five grandchildren, Ethan, Landin, Benjamin, Alazandra, and Stella; three step grandchildren, Jayda, Valerie and Abigail; two sisters, Laura Jane and Rhonda of Pennsylvania; and several nephews, nieces, and cousins.
There will be a memorial service in the fall. Donations in her honor can be made to Heartland Pet Welfare in Savanna.
