Raymond Edward Steines, loved family and the outdoor life. At the age of 85, Raymond died Saturday, April 23, 2016 at Iowa Veteran’s Home, Marshalltown, Iowa. A Funeral Mass will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 30, 2016 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Preston with Father Don Hertges as Celebrant. Burial will be in Miles Cemetery Miles, Iowa, with full Military Rites. A visitation will be held 9:00 – 10:30 a.m., prior to the Mass at the Church. A memorial fund has been established in Raymond’s memory for the Miles American Legion.
Raymond was born October 3, 1930 in Springbrook, Iowa, the son of Edward and Mary (Weimerskirch) Steines. He attended country school. In 1952, Raymond enlisted in the US Army. He served in Korea, and was honorably discharged in 1954. He was a faithful member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Preston. And also previously St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Sabula.
Raymond worked with his hands, as a farm-hand for many years. He enjoyed being outdoors and working with machinery to plant and harvest. He enjoyed hunting and fishing all of his life, Raymond especially like squirrel hunting. He also enjoyed playing cards with friends.
Raymond will be dearly missed by four nieces, Barbara (Larry Holdgrafer), Karen (Tom) Holdgrafer, Nancy (Bill) Baumann, Dorothy (Glen) Schmidt and one nephew, Mike (Donna) Steines; and several great-nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Milton (Elberta) Steines; a sister, Marie (Walter) Jackson; a niece; and a nephew.
