Raymond Gene Remrey

Raymond Gene Remrey, 72 of Thomson, Illinois passed away at his home in Thomson on Saturday, July 1, 2017 following a long battle of several illnesses. He fought to the very end.
Raymond was born October 5, 1944 in Fulton, Illinois to Charles and Nellie Remrey. He was educated in Fulton and Thomson grade school, and graduated from Thomson High School. Ray married Marilyn Pease of Thomson on May 23, 1964 at the Methodist Church in Thomson. They celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary recently.
Raymond retired from JT Cullen in Fulton in 2003 where he was a fabricator. He was a member of Ducks Unlimited, Turkey Federation and the National Rifle Association. He enjoyed hunting, ice fishing, gensinging and morel hunting. Raymond also made his own duck calls and often donated them to local benefits. He collected anything old including duck calls, guns and had every deer and turkey pin that came out. He also loved clocks. His house was full of deer heads, turkey mounts and old beehives. His pride and joy was his 1950 Harry Ferguson tractor, where you would often see him plowing snow and filling potholes.
Survivors include his wife, Marilyn of Thomson; three daughters, Tammy (Jim) Balk of Thomson, Gina (Herb Morro) Phillips of Thomson, and Terry (Brett) Bearsley of Clinton, Iowa and Savanna, Illinois; they have 10 grandchildren, Robert, Shawn, Jeff, Samantha, Shelby, Michael, Michelle, Ashton, Bryan and Tabitha; four great-grandchildren, Takoda, Mila, Alexander and Hayden; and one sister, Anna Mae Boyert. He had a huge place in his heart for his two dogs, Sable and Mia, and a best friend, Al Root.
Raymond is preceded in death by his parents; five sisters, Charlotte Barsema, Betty Rumfelt, Marcella Thompson, Helen Buikema and Ruby Hamm; and five brothers, Ralph, Donald “Bud”, Bob, Harry “Sonny” and Dan Remrey.
Raymond will be dearly missed, and we will have a Celebration of Life at Tipton Auction House in Thomson, Illinois (Hwy 84) on Sunday, July 9, 2017 from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
