Raymond William Demuth

March 23, 1933 — June 28, 2015

Raymond William DeMuth, husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather age 82 of Mt. Carroll, Illinois, left this earth to be with God on June 28, 2015 at FHN Memorial Hospital, Freeport, Illinois. A Funeral Mass will be held on 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 4, 2015 at SS. John and Catherine Catholic Church, Mt. Carroll. A visitation will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday, July 3, 2015 at the church with a Rosary service at 4:30 p.m. prior to the visitation. Burial will take place in Oak Hill Cemetery, Mt. Carroll with a luncheon to follow at SS. John and Catherine Church Hall. A memorial fund has been established in Ray’s honor.
Raymond was born on March 23, 1933 in Chicago, Illinois, the son of Joseph and Emma (Beske) DeMuth. He graduated from St. Andrews School and Lake View High School. He attended both Eglin Community College and William Rainey Harper College. He served in the United States Army from 1953-55 while stationed in Munich, Germany.
Raymond was employed as a Mechanical Designer by Teletype Corporation, which later became a part of AT&T. He married Ruth Schumacher on September 29, 1956 and together they raised seven children. They were married at Our Lady of Mercy Parish in Chicago, and lived in Carpentersville, Illinois until moving to Mt. Carroll after Ray’s retirement.
Raymond enjoyed working with his hands and being busy. He was an accomplished carpenter and handyman, fixing anything that needed to be repaired; including televisions, radios, clocks and car engines to name a few. He was also very creative and could make something new out of something old or broken. He was a member of SS John and Catherine Catholic Church, The Knights of Columbus, and a greeter.
Raymond will be dearly missed by his wife, Ruth; five sons, Michael of Charleston, Illinois, Kenneth (Dalia) of Chicago, Douglas (Margaret) of Carpentersville, Illinois, James (Kim) of Clearwater, Florida, Thomas (Terri) Demuth of Athens, Georgia, two daughters, Judith DeMuth of Casey, Illinois Jennifer DeMuth of Chicago; 20 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one sister, Bernadine McNichols of Hoffman Estates, Illinois and a close friend, Rich Ferguson. Raymond is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Clarence and Elmer and a sister, Ethel McHugh.
