Ray L. Beyer, age 88, of Stockton, Illinois, died Wednesday, November 26, 2008, at the Swedish American Hospital in Rockford, Illinois. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, December 1, 2008, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Derinda, Illinois, with Pastor Ann Ziegert officiating. Burial will follow in the Trinity Lutheran Church Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 3:00 – 5:00 p.m. Sunday, November 30, at the Law – Jones Funeral Home in Elizabeth, Illinois. Memorials may be directed to the Trinity Lutheran Church, Derinda.

Ray was born September 10, 1920, in Derinda Twp, Illinois, the son of Henry and Laura (Streicher) Beyer. He attended the Logan School. Ray was united in marriage to Betty Reusch on December 21, 1944, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Derinda. The couple farmed their entire lives in the Derinda area before moving to Stockton, Illinois, in 1997. Ray loved his farm and enjoyed the work he did on it.

Ray enjoyed hunting, trapping, and playing euchre with his family. He also took charge of the garden once the couple moved into town from the farm. Ray was a former member of the Trinity Lutheran Church Council and was a two term member of the Elizabeth School Board.

Ray is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife Betty of Stockton, Illinois; three sons, David (Vickie) Beyer of Sapulpa, Oklahoma, Rodney (Terri) Beyer of Warren, Illinois, and Bradley (Bonnie) Beyer of Stockton, Illinois; five grandchildren, Leslie Beyer, Michael (Cory) Beyer, Stephanie (Randy) Sertle, Jeffrey (Angela) Beyer, and Andrew Beyer; five great – grandchildren, Hudson Ray Beyer, Bethany, Matthew, and Caleb Beyer, and Drew Sertle; three brothers, Elvin (Dee) Beyer of Sierra Madre, California, Maurice (Donna) Beyer of Elizabeth, Illinios, and Lee (Loris) Beyer of Elizabeth; one brother – in – law, Johnie Reusch of Elizabeth; three nephews, Wayne Beyer, Roger (Sherri) Beyer, and William (Theresa) Reusch.

Ray was preceded in death by his parents, his sister and brother – in – law, Pearl and Bill Schuller, and two sisters – in – law, Lucille Reusch and Irma Beyer.
