Randy Starr

Randy Starr, age 53, of Thomson, Illinois passed in eternal life at his home on June 20, 2014. Randy was especially proud of his daughter, Katie, and son, Matt.
Randy was born April 1, 1961 in Savanna, Illinois, the son of Kenneth and Arlene (Potter) Starr. He attended Thomson schools. On May 12, 1984, Randy married Linda Brown in Thomson.Randy worked for Determann Industries for thirty-seven years, starting as a laborer on the paving crew and working his way up to a Project Manager. He was a devoted member of the Determann Industries family. He also served many years on the Thomson Village Board, and on the Board of Directors for the Iowa Asphalt Paving Association—he was their president in 2008.
Randy went out of his way for others and especially his community of Thomson.He enjoyed traveling and snowmobiling. Randy took pride in teaching his son, Matt, the skills of hunting, fishing, and mushroom hunting.
He will be dearly missed by his family, Linda and their children, Katie and Matt, all of Thomson; his parents, Kenneth and Arlene Starr of Thomson; two brothers and three sisters, Richard (Kay) Shear of Fulton, Cheryl Temple of Fulton, Steve (Terry Ann) Starr of Thomson, Cathy (Marv) Green of Argo Fay and Theresa (Chas) Hermann of Calabasas, CA; his in-laws, Gordon (Donna) Brown of Thomson, Rhonda (Ed) Rousch of Union Hall, VA, Jackie (Ron) Hardt of Clinton, IA, Gary (Suzanne) Brown of High point, NC, Vicky Meyermann of LeClaire, IA and Terry (Marla) Brown of Raonoke, VA; and many nieces and nephews. Randy is preceded in death by a sister at birth, Kimberly; a nephew, Josh Brown; and all of his grandparents.
A funeral service will be held 10:00 a.m. Thursday, June 26, 2014 at the Law-Jones Funeral Home, Thomson. Burial will be in Lower York Cemetery, Thomson. Visitation will be held 3:00 - 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 25, 2014 at the Funeral Home. A memorial fund has been established in Randy's memory.
