Ramona Marie Nelson, age 81, passed away peacefully, Monday, November 2, 2009 at her home in Hanover, Illinois. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 6, 2009, at the Hanover United Presbyterian Church with Pastor Lynne Matthews officiating. Burial will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery in Hanover. Visitation will be held from 4 - 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 5, at the Law - Jones Funeral Home in Hanover. Memorials may be directed to the Melanoma Research Foundation or the American Heart Association.

Ramona was born May 31, 1928, the daughter of Ralph and Sylvia (Moore) Torgerson in Sterling , Wisconsin. She attended Rising Sun Country School in Rising Sun, Wisconsin.

On October 19, 1946, Ramona married Vernon Nelson in rural Ferryville, Wisconsin. She enjoyed being a homemaker and raising her children. Ramona was a member of the Hanover United Presbyterian Church, the Hanover Women's Auxiliary #5300, the Green Hills Girl Scout Council, Ramona believed that those who can, do ~ do and those who can do more, Volunteer. She volunteered as a Girl Scout Leader, clipped labels for the local schools that participated in the Campbell Soup Labels for Education, volunteered at the Schapville Sonshine Center and the Hanover Park District. Ramona enjoyed sewing, crafts and collecting beautiful porcelain dolls.

Ramona will be dearly missed by her two daughters, Jeanne (Daniel) Ohms and Jane (Darryl) Johnson, both of Hanover; two sons Tom (Cathy) Nelson of Galena, Illinois and John Nelson of Lanark, Illinois; thirteen grandchildren and twenty-one great grandchildren; sisters, Lucetta Hobbs, Juanita Cumpton, Sylvia Engen, Artis Aasen, Arla Page and Mary Ann Brudos; one brother, Ralph Torgerson, Jr. and many nieces and nephews. Ramona was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Vernon; sisters, Virginia O’Brien. , Patricia George, and brother, George Torgerson.
