Ralph C. Giddings, Jr., age 87, of Sabula, Iowa died Friday, December 22, 2006 at Big Meadows Nursing Home, Savanna, Illinois. Funeral Services will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, December 27, 2006 at the Law-Jones Funeral Home, Sabula with Pastor Michael Jones officiating. Burial will be in Sterling Cemetery, rural Sabula. Friends may call from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 26, 2006 at the Law-Jones Funeral Home, Sabula. A memorial fund has been established in Ralph’s name.
Ralph was born September 9, 1919 in rural Sabula, the son of Ralph C. and Martha (Grunnet) Giddings, Sr.. He attended Sandridge Country School and graduated from Sabula High School, Class of 1937. He married Jacqueline Gruhn on October 19, 1952 in Sabula.
Ralph farmed all of his life near Sabula. He was confirmed in the Lutheran faith. Ralph drove a school bus for many years for the Sabula School System and was Secretary / Treasurer of the Sterling Cemetery for fifty-years. He held membership in the Masonic Lodge for over fifty years.
Ralph very much enjoyed and loved his family; he liked to do woodworking projects in his free time.
Ralph will be dearly missed by his wife of fifty-four years, Jacqueline of Sabula; two sons, Jerold (Marilyn) Giddings of Sabula and David (Diane) Giddings of Preston, Iowa; two daughters, Rachel Burken of Tulsa, Oklahoma and Ann Sanger of Miles, Iowa; eight grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.
Ralph is preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Helen Pointer and Jane Jepsen; and one son in-law, Steve Sanger.
