Rachel Kathleen Wright, age 34, originally of Savanna, Illinois and currently living in Chicago, Illinois went to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 9th, 2010. A service celebrating her life will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 15, 2010 at the First United Methodist Church, Savanna. Burial will take place in Spring Lake Cemetery, Savanna. Visitation will be held from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. Friday, May 14, 2010, and one hour prior to the service on Saturday, both at the First United Methodist Church, Savanna. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Lillian Kate Wright Marino Educational Fund. Rachel was born on June 28, 1975 in Clinton, Iowa, the daughter of Bill and Katy (Vorwald) Wright. She was the third of four daughters. Rachel was baptized and confirmed at the First United Methodist Church in Savanna. She attended the Savanna Community Schools and graduated with the class of 1993. While in high school she was on the volleyball, basketball and track teams; she was a member of the National Honor Society and was chosen as the Homecoming Queen. After high school Rachel was a Rotary Exchange student in Denmark. Upon her return she attended Northern Illinois University and received her B.S. degree in Special Education. Rachel began teaching in the Barrington School District. While teaching she received her MA degree in Special Education Administration from Northern Illinois University. Rachel continued to teach Special Education at the Barrington School District, for the past 10 years, both at the Junior High and High School level. Rachel enjoyed working with her students and her co-workers.Rachel cherished her time with her baby daughter, Lillian "Lily" Kate, and her companion, Joe Marino. She loved being a mother. She loved spending time talking and visiting with her sisters, Bethany, Carmen and Darcy and their children. She was close to each of them. Rachel also enjoyed working with plants and flowers, reading, traveling, and going fishing and boating with her Dad and the rest of the family on the Mississippi River. She loved talking and being with her friends.Rachel is survived by her companion, Joe Marino; their three month old daughter, Lillian "Lily" Kate; her parents, Bill and Katy Wright of Savanna; her sisters, Darcy (Phil) Callahan of St. Charles, Missouri, Carmen (Dan) Holcomb of Highland, Illinois and Bethany (Kevin) Connor of Chicago, Illinois; her maternal grandmother, Miriam Vorwald of Guttenberg, Iowa; her nephews, Andrew, Tate and Quinn Callahan and Patrick and Owen Holcomb; Rachel’s many aunts, uncles and cousins; Joe’s parents, Tim and Mary Marino of Chicago, Illinois; and his sisters, Tracy (Johnny) LoBello, Nicole (Mike) Hayes, and nieces and nephews; Gina, Vinny and Frankie LoBello, Breanne Hayes and grandparents, Sam and Pat Marino and grandmother, Mary Parisi.Preceding Rachel in death are her grandparents, Hap and Ameta Wright, Haldane Vorwald and Dominick Parisi. Rachel would want it to be known that she appreciated all who touched and enriched her life on earth—family, friends, and students.
