Phyllis H. Mattie

Phyllis H. Mattie, age 87, of Savanna, Illinois, died Wednesday, November 14, 2007 at Big Meadows Nursing Home, Savanna. A private family service will be held at a later date.
Phyllis was born October 18, 1920 in Oxford Junction, Iowa, the daughter of John and Alleyne (Mercer) Hensley. She graduated form Savanna High School and on February 10, 1943 Phyllis married Edward F. Mattie at Alton, Illinois. He died May 27, 2000. Phyllis was a homemaker most of her life. She attended the Episcopal Church and enjoyed her family, especially time with her grandchildren. Phyllis was also an avid reader and loved crewel work.
Phyllis and her husband lived and worked in Chicago for several years where she worked for Carson-Pirie-Scott & Co. and was also the hostess for Mickelberry’s Restaurant.
Phyllis will be dearly missed by a daughter, Karen (Gerald) Liebmann of Houston, Texas; a son, James (Stephanie) Mattie of Geneseo, Illinois; three grandchildren, Kristen Liebmann, Laura Mattie and David Mattie; a brother, James B. Hensley of Tulsa, Oklahoma; and a sister, Maxine (Robert) Schumm of Arlington, Virginia. Phyllis is preceded in death by her husband, Ed and a brother, Allan.
