Phyllis Ann (Klemme) Pickett

Phyllis Ann (Klemme) Pickett, age 89, of Preston, Iowa passed away Wednesday, August 31, 2022, at Fieldstone Senior Living Center in Dewitt, Iowa. A Celebration of Life service will be held 2 pm Thursday, September 8, 2022, at Law Jones Funeral Home, Preston, Iowa with a visitation held one hour prior to the service from 1 – 2 pm at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Miles City Cemetery.

Phyllis was born May 24, 1933, in rural Preston to August and Edith (Lingle) Klemme. She attended Buckeye Country School through the 6th grade and then went on to graduate from Preston High School with the Class of 1951. On March 19, 1954, Phyllis married Lowell Bernett Pickett at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Preston. They raised three children, Gary, Donald and Dale, and celebrated 55 years of marriage.

Phyllis met Lowell at Clinton Engines in Maquoketa, Iowa where she heat-treated the crank shafts and Lowell worked in the foundry. She also worked as a babysitter for about 25 years. Phyllis taught herself to decorate fabulous birthday and anniversary cakes. She and Lowell enjoyed camping at the Thomson Causeway, Bellevue and the Sugar Bottom Campground near Iowa City. She mostly enjoyed the time she spent with grandchildren. Phyllis was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church.

Phyllis is survived by two sons, Donald Pickett of Anamosa, Iowa and Dale (Michelle) Pickett of Neillsville, Wisconsin; seven grandchildren, Jessica (Allen) Roling, Kristin Pickett (Shad Widener), Kyle Driscoll (Liz Smithson), Amanda (Justyne) Pickett and Courtney, Megan (Adam) Pennington and Justin Pickett; and four great-grandchildren, Makena, Harper, Hudson and Isla. Phyllis is preceded in death by her husband, Lowell in 2009; her son, Gary in 2001; both parents; two sisters, Margaret (Reno) Taplin and Adeline (Carl) Kintner; and three brothers, Wilbert Klemme, Robert (Marielda) Klemme and Albert (Elaine) Klemme.
