Peter B. Libberton

Peter B. Libberton, age 99, of Mt. Carroll, Illinois, died Wednesday, November 11, 2009, at the Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Mt. Carroll. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 14, 2009, at the Frank - Law - Jones Funeral Home in Mt. Carroll. Burial will follow in the Lanark Cemetery, Lanark, Illinois. Visitation will be held from 10 - 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 14, prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the Carroll County Senior Organization.

Peter was born May 1, 1910, in Mt. Carroll, Illinois, the son of William and Florence (Hicks) Libberton. He attended school in Mt. Carroll. Peter married Helen Schmidt on March 21, 1936, in Mt. Carroll. She preceded him in death on September 15, 1986.

Peter farmed in Lanark, Illinois, area until 1969. He then worked for ten years at Eaton & Elkay as a customer service repairman. Peter was a member of the Rock Creek Grange since 1943 and an active member of the Carroll County Senior Organization. He enjoyed working word puzzles and fishing and working at the Senior Center.

Peter is survived by his daughter, Connie (Marinus) Nielsen of Orient, Iowa; three grandchildren, Bentley, Brent, and Katriona; nine great grandchildren; five brothers, Elvin (Alverta) Libberton of Mt. Carroll, Neil (Mary) Libberton of Mt. Carroll, Cid (Norma) Libberton of Stockton, Illinois, Charles (Jane) Libberton of Tampa, Florida, and Russell (Janet) Libberton of Savanna, Illinois; and his cherished companion, Anna Ditsworth of Mt. Carroll.

Peter was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Helen; three brothers, Clarence Libberton, LaVelle Libberton and Richard Libberton; and three sisters, Alicia Withart, Luella Skiles and Sarah Schmidt.
