Peggy Ann Beyer

April 29, 1945 — November 22, 2023

Peggy Ann (Steffes) Beyer went home to the Lord on November 22, 2023 at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City. She was born on April 29, 1945 to Florence (Musser) and Raymond Steffes in Freeport Illinois.

Peggy spent her youth helping her family farm in rural Massbach. She was active in 4H and later on served as a 4H leader. Peggy attended Bethel country school and later graduated from Elizabeth High School with the class of 1963.

On February 14, 1965 she married Ronald Beyer at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Massbach. Together they had two children. One son, Daniel, and one daughter, Lynnell.

Both Peggy and Ronald spent their married life serving the Lord through their church, Trinity Lutheran Derinda, and the Elizabeth community. Peggy was known for making quilts with the church ladies’ group, singing in the church choir, playing the piano and organ for services, serving as a church secretary, and caring for many as a home healthcare aide.

Peggy used her gift of cooking as a Director of Food services at Morgan Memorial Nursing home in Stockton. She also worked as a medical secretary for Dr Waites in Elizabeth and Galena, and as a secretary for MacArthur Publishing in Elizabeth and she worked as healthcare aide for Home Instead out of Dubuque Iowa.

Surviving are her children, Daniel and Lynnell, both of Elizabeth; one brother, James (Mildred) Steffes of Elizabeth; sisters-in-law, Twila (Richard) Reusch, Lillian Beyer of Elizabeth, and Sharon Beyer of Galena Mo; and one brother-in-law, Russel (Linda) Beyer of Elizabeth; and numerous nieces and nephews. Proceeding Peggy in death is her husband, Ronald, her parents, Florence and Raymond Steffes, an infant twin sister, Patsy, brothers-in-laws, Allen, LeRoy, and John Beyer, and sisters-in-law, IvaMae (Tom) Leehan, Dorthy (Melvin) Ellinoir, and LaVonne Schrader.

A Celebration of life will be at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, December 16, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Derinda with visitation ­­­­­­­­­­­­­­from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m., with internment after.

In Lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Elizabeth Ambulance Service, Elizabeth Fire Dept, Trinity Lutheran Church, Safe Haven, Elizabeth Food Pantry, and Hillcrest Family Services in Dubuque, Iowa.

We would like to thank Dr. Gregory Vandigo, the staff at Midwest Medical Center in Galena, Mercy One in Dubuque and Waterloo Iowa, Enoble Nursing Home in Dubuque Iowa, Carrie with Compassus Hospice care, and the staff at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City for their excellent care of Peggy.
