Paula Denise Sager

Paula Denise Sager, age 70, of Savanna, Illinois, passed away on February 15, 2026, at MercyOne Medical Center in Clinton, Iowa. A private funeral service will be held, and interment will take place at Savanna Township Cemetery.

Born on July 13, 1955, in Savanna, Paula was the daughter of Paul and Betty (Oberheim) Sager. She grew up in Savanna and graduated with the Savanna High School Class of 1974. During her school years, she participated in the D.O. program and worked in the school library, an early sign of her lifelong love of books and learning. She later continued her education at Mount St. Clare College in Clinton, earning a degree in Business Accounting.

Her professional life reflected her reliability and dedication. Paula worked for the local public library, the National Bank in Savanna, and Miner Accounting and Tax Service, which later became Gunderson Accounting. Whether assisting patrons, balancing accounts, or supporting local businesses, she approached every role with care, precision, and a genuine desire to be helpful.

Paula’s interests were simple, steady joys that brought her comfort throughout her life. She loved reading and could often be found with a book nearby. She enjoyed sudoku and crossword puzzles, and sewing, appreciating the quiet challenge they offered. A lifelong learner, she studied French in high school and continued to revisit her old textbook, brushing up on vocabulary and grammar just for the pleasure of it. Paula also loved cheering on her favorite teams; Milwaukee Brewers, Chicago Cubs, LA Lakers, and Chicago Bears.

Faith was an important part of Paula’s life. She was a member of the Savanna Presbyterian Church, where she also served as treasurer for a time.

Paula is survived by her mother, Betty Sager; sister Shelly Sager, of Valparaiso, IN; and aunts, Linda James and Donna Ferris. Paula is preceded in death by her father, Paul Sager, and sister, Dawn R. Sager
