Paul Levi Weaver, Jr.

Paul Levi Weaver Jr, 90 of Lanark, IL passed away peacefully on October 3, 2023 at home in the loving care of his family.

Paul was born on February 23rd, 1933, in Muncie, IN to Paul L Weaver Sr. and Frances (Nee Rench). He graduated from Lancaster High School, Lancaster Indiana. He then attended Manchester College, where he played basketball. He was a lifelong member of the Church of the Brethren. In 1954, he joined Brethren Volunteer Service and spent 2 years living in Austria, driving supplies up in the mountains to refugees. Paul enjoyed traveling around Europe with the many friends he made.

He returned to Indiana in 1956 and started farming. In 1958 he realized that the girl he knew as a family friend, Carolyn Heaston, was the love of his life. Paul married Carolyn on February 7th, 1959. They had three daughters. In 1969, he moved the family to Lanark, Illinois, where his father, Paul Sr, had grown up and his grandfather had been the preacher at Cherry Grove Church of the Brethren. He farmed there with the help of Lawrence Hubbard until retirement in 2004.

Paul served on the board of directors for Farm Credit for nine years and held many positions on the Lanark Church of the Brethren board. He was very active in the Lions Club and enjoyed attending many sporting events at Lanark/Eastland High School. In his free time, he enjoyed boating and fishing with friends and family, working at the county fair, and playing Dominos and cards with his friends.

Later in life, Paul and Carolyn spent winters on Marco Island, Florida enjoying time with their daughter Judy, son-in-law Rodger, and other family and friends. He enjoyed socializing at The Wrack and Wing Hunting Club in Lanark, IL, and continued to enjoy playing cards and dominos with his friends.

Paul is survived by his loving wife Carolyn; his daughters, Debra Ann Rocholl of Naperville, IL, Judith Louise McGinn (Rodger) of Marco Island, FL, and Susan Marie Toepfer (Spencer) of Freeport, IL; four grandchildren, Adam Rocholl of Denver, Co, Allison Andrijzcak (Jon) of Lombard, IL, Andrew Hartman (Laura) of Lanark, IL, and Eric Hartman of Brooklyn, NY; five great-grandchildren, Carter, Ethan, Olivia Andrijzcak, Lexi, and Adie Hartman; two sisters, Martha Stephan of Huntington, IN, and Jane Shenkle of Huntington, IN; two brothers, James Weaver (Carolyn) of Lena, IL, Joe Weaver (Carolyn) of Libertyville IA; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents Paul L. Weaver Sr and Francis Weaver of Lanark, IL; two sisters, Joyce Truitt of Fort Wayne IN, and Carolyn Flaugher of Liberty Center, IN; a brother John Weaver of Shannon, IL; and a son-in-law, Donald Hartman of Lanark IL.

A Celebration of Life service will be 10am Saturday, October 14, 2023 at Law Jones Eastland in Lanark. Visitation will take place 3 – 6pm Friday, October 13 at Law Jones Eastland. Inurnment will be in the Lanark Cemetery. Memorials can be made in Paul’s honor for FHN Hospice.
