Paul Henry Roberts, age 89 of Mount Carroll, Illinois, died Tuesday, April 2, 2013 at Rockford Memorial Hospital, Rockford, Illinois. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm., Saturday, April 6, 2013 at Frank-Law-Jones Funeral Home, Mount Carroll. Burial will take place in Oak hill Cemetery, Mount Carroll. A visitation will be held from 12:00 noon-2:00 pm., prior to the service at the funeral home. A memorial fund has been established in Paul's memory.
Paul was born on January 7, 1924, the son of Harmon and Eliza (Brunner) Roberts in Savanna, Illinois. He attended Pleasant Hill Country School in rural Savanna. Paul married Frances J. Asay on April 29, 1956 in Mount Carroll.
Paul farmed his entire life and purchased his father's farm in 1972. He raised cattle and hogs and grew corn, hay and oats. Paul sold his farm in 1995 and kept a portion of the farm to live on with his wife, Frances. After his retirement, Paul raised and released quail at his home. Paul was a member of the Carroll County Farm Bureau and the National Rifleman Association. Paul enjoyed the outdoors, especially gardening, hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed traveling annually to the Lake of the Ozarks with his wife. Most of all, Paul loved spending time with his family and friends.
Paul will be dearly missed by his wife, Frances, two sons, Jamie (Tracey) Roberts of Hudson, Florida and Jeff Roberts of Mount Carroll; one daughter, Peggy (Robert) Schultz of Double Springs, Alabama; two brothers, Phillip Roberts of Neponset, Illinois and Julius (Donna) Roberts of Morrison, Illinois and two sisters, Mary Garien of Preston, Iowa and Betty Roberts.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents; one brother in-law, Leroy Garien and eleven brothers and sisters.
