Paul Eugene Hartman

Paul Hartman, age 89, of Savanna, Illinois, passed away Thursday, May 14, 2026, at MercyOne Clinton Medical Center. A funeral service will be held 2pm Saturday, May 23, 2026, with a visitation from 12 - 2 pm at Law Jones funeral Home in Savanna. Burial of ashes will be at a later date in Savanna Township Cemetery.

Paul was born May 8, 1937, in Thomson, Illinois, the son of Willard and Cornelia (Voss) Hartman. He attended Savanna schools with the Class of 1955.

On September 18, 1959, Paul married Marilyn Russell in Thomson, Illinois. Together they shared many years of marriage and built a life centered around family, hard work, and community.

Paul proudly served his country in the United States Navy, enlisting in 1954 and serving roughly four years as a seaman. Following his military service, he worked for the City of Savanna in public works, dedicating 46 years to serving the community.

Paul was deeply involved in Savanna and the surrounding area. He was a member of Rotary, the Lions Club, the Chamber, the LRA, the American Legion, the Carroll County Housing Authority, and the Train Car Museum. He also served as City Clerk and on the County Board.

Paul enjoyed woodworking, spending time on the computer, using his camera and reading. Above all, he loved his family and especially enjoyed time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Paul will be dearly missed by his wife, Marilyn Hartman; two daughters, Paula (Perry) Koehler of Greenville, South Carolina, and Yvonne (Lindon) Dewey of Stillman Valley, Illinois; three sons, Timothy (Melody Hartson) Hartman and Christopher (Michelle) Hartman, both of Savanna, and Eric (Karen) Hartman of Mt.Carroll; 13 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchild; a brother, Richard Hartman of Savanna; a sister, Sharon Orth of Benton, Wisconsin; and sister-in-law, Lolita Hartman of Savanna.

Paul was preceded in death by his parents, Willard and Cora; brothers, William Hartman and Kenneth (Caroline) Hartman; two infant brothers, Rex Allen and Willard Jr.; and a sister Cora Stricker.
