Paul H. Grissinger

Paul Harry Grissinger, age 94, of Savanna, Illinois died Tuesday, December 29, 2015 at Big Meadows Nursing Home, Savanna. A Funeral Mass will be held 10:00 a.m., Monday, January 4, 2016 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Savanna. Burial will take place in Savanna Township Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 3, 2016 at Law-Jones Funeral Home, Savanna. A scripture wake service will held at 3:30 p.m., prior to the visitation. A memorial fund has been established in Paul’s memory.
Paul was born May 29, 1921, the son of Harry and Pauline (Asem) Grissinger in Savanna. Paul married Helen Dunn on May 10, 1944 in Savanna. Helen passed away on September 10, 1999. He later remarried to Joan Johnson on July 26, 2008 in Savanna.
In 1945, Paul began working at the Dunn Greenhouse (Savanna Greenhouse) until 1965 when he and Helen opened Lakeview Florist in Savanna. They continued to operate their floral shop for 30 years until selling the business and retiring in 1995. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and a former member of First United Methodist Church, Savanna. Paul was a member of the Civil Conservation Corp. for 3 years, the Thomson Illinois Chamber of Commerce, Savanna Moose Lodge, past member of the Thomson Rotary, Savanna Township Board for over 20 years, a Cub Scout Master and a member of several florist organizations. Paul enjoyed bowling, golfing, fishing, hunting and trapping. He loved watching sports on TV and especially liked watching the Chicago Cubs.
Paul will be dearly missed by his wife Joan of Savanna; three sons, Robert (LaVona) Grissinger of Savanna, Illinois, Harry (Linda) Grissinger of Savanna and Richard (Beverly) Grissinger of Savanna; three stepchildren, Edwin (Kim) Johnson Jr., of Hanover, Illinois, James (Tammi) Johnson of Savanna and Thomas Johnson of Hanover; four grandchildren, Thomas (Karen) Grissinger, Vanessa (Duane Hudson) Grissinger-Powell, Shane (Elizabeth) Grissinger and Jamie (Jody) Minor; five stepgrandchildren, Corey and Kaley Eddie, Abbigail Johnson, Hannah Johnson; 10 great-grandchildren, Kristin, Katie (Jenni), Elijah, Daniel, Paige, Jack, Maggie, Sophie, Abigail and Carly; one sister-in-law, Joyce Dunn; and two nephews, Doug (Bonnie) Dunn and Bill Dunn.
Paul is preceded in death by his first wife, Helen; his parents, Harry and Pauline; his stepmother, Rozella Loken; his brother, Robert B. Grissinger, a sister, LaVice Matthison; one brother-in-law, Clarence “Bud” Dunn; and a step-granddaughter, Valerie Johnson.
