Paul Bellich

December 22, 1925 — March 12, 2016

Paul S. Bellich, age 90, of Savanna, Illinois, passed away on Saturday, March 12, 2016 at Big Meadows Nursing Home in Savanna. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, March 19, 2016 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Savanna, with Father Moises Apostol as Celebrant. Burial of ashes will take place at a later date in St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery, Savanna.
Paul was born December 22, 1925 at home in Savanna, the son of Steve and Mary (Notz) Bellich. He attended Savanna St. John’s and Savanna High School. Paul worked at the Savanna Ice House, the CB&Q Roundhouse as a blacksmiths helper and the Milwaukee rip track. Paul started working as a laborer on construction in 1948, retiring from the Laborer’s International Union Local 727 in 1985.
Paul married Phyllis Mae Johns on February 16, 1957 at the St. John’s Rectory in Savanna. Phyllis passed away February 25, 2013, shortly after their 56th wedding anniversary. Paul enjoyed helping family and friends, watching baseball, football and old western movies. He was a faithful member of the St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Savanna.
Paul will be dearly missed by his son, Michael (Renita) Bellich of Savanna; two grandsons, Matthew (Tara) Bellich, David (Devin) Bellich; four great-grandchildren, Vaida Bellich, Liam Bellich, Skye Tyler, Dean Bellich and one due in early October; two brothers, Tom Bellich of Savanna, Nick Bellich of Belvidere, Illinois and a sister-in-law, Rosalie Bellich of Thomson, Illinois. Paul is preceded in death by his wife; parents; three sisters, Marie (Ole) Molander, Lorraine (Johnny) Youngren and Lois at birth; two brothers, Albert and Emil Bellich.
