Patricia “Pat” B. Cottral, age 84 of Hanover, Illinois, died on Saturday, September 14, 2013 at her home surrounded by her loving family. A funeral mass will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, September 20, 2013 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Hanover with Father Noel Jacob as Celebrant. Cremation Rites will be accorded following the Mass. Burial of her cremated remains will take place at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, September 21, 2013 in the Evergreen Cemetery, Hanover. A visitation will be held from 5:00-8:00 p.m., Thursday, September 19, 2013 at Law-Jones Funeral Home, Hanover with a public Rosary Service being held at 4:30 p.m., prior to the visitation at the funeral home. A memorial fund will be established in Pat’s memory.
Pat was born on October 1, 1928, the daughter of Earl and Cecile (Sullivan) Ballein in the Savanna City Hospital, Savanna. She attended Hanover High School and graduated with the Class of 1946. Pat married Robert “Dan” Cottral on June 30, 1950 in St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Hanover. Dan died on November 14, 2004.
Pat cherished taking care of her family and adored her six children. After they were grown, Pat worked as a Clerk for the Hanover Post Office and as a Librarian for the Hanover Library. She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, where she attended daily mass. Pat was a devout Catholic and enjoyed teaching Catechism and praying the Rosary. Pat enjoyed watching Notre Dame, Chicago White Sox and Green Bay Packers games. She also treasured playing Dominoes with her sister and cousin and was an avid Pinochle and Bridge player. Pat also enjoyed weeding and caring for her flower garden. Pat was a good cook and an excellent baker, earning the nickname “Mrs. Good Cookie” for her amazing chocolate chip cookies.
Pat will be dearly missed by her two daughters, Sheila (Dwayne) Allison of Hanover and Amy (Bill) Butzow of Lincolnwood, Illinois; two sons, John (Kelly Behrens) Cottral and Jim Cottral both of Hanover; son in-law, Jeff Brueggen of Hanover; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild and one sister, Nora Murphy of Hanover, Illinois.
Pat was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dan Cottral; three children, Dr. Julie Cottral, Diane Brueggen and one son at birth, Christopher.
