Patricia “Pat” Kay Benson, age 75, of Thomson, Illinois, formerly of Batavia, Illinois, died Wednesday, February 22, 2017, at the Good Samaritan Society, Mt. Carroll, Illinois. A funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m., Monday, February 27, 2017 at Law-Jones Funeral Home in Thomson. Burial will take place in Lower York Cemetery, Thomson. Visitation will be held from 3:00 – 6:00 p.m., Sunday, February 26, 2017 at Law-Jones Funeral Home, Thomson. Memorials may be given to the Thomson United Methodist Church in Pat’s memory.
Pat was born on April 19, 1941, the daughter of Wynn and Dolores (Garrison) Ellis in Elgin, Illinois. She attended high school in St. Charles, Illinois and graduated with the Class of 1958. On February 9, 1963, Pat married Victor Benson in Batavia, Illinois. They celebrated 42 years of marriage until Victor’s death on March 3, 2006.
Pat worked as a Bookkeeper for the Batavia School District for 18 ½ years. She was a member of the Thomson United Methodist Church and the Quilting Club at the Carroll County Senior Citizens Center. She was a Cub Scout Leader for 14 years, and also trained other Cub Scout Leaders. Pat earned the Fox Valley District Award of Merit in 1976. Pat enjoyed reading, music, logic puzzles, needlework, and especially loved spending time with her grandchildren.
Pat will be dearly missed by one son, Brian (Lauri) Benson of Batavia, Illinois; one daughter, Kimberly (Butch) Mobley of Thomson; three grandchildren, Nicholas and Zachary Benson and Hallie Mobley; her mother, Dolores Ellis of Yorkville, Illinois; three sisters, Peggy (John) Simmons of Millington, Illinois, Judy (Carl) Irps of Cape Coral, Florida, and Gwendolyn Ellis of Laguna Beach, California. Pat is preceded in death by her husband, Victor, and her father, Wynn.
