Richard “Papa" Allen Davenport , age 62, of South Milwaukee, Wisconsin, formerly of Savanna, Illinois, died suddenly in his home on Thursday April 15, 2010. A funeral service will be held at 5:00 p.m., Monday, April 19, 2010 at the Law-Jones Funeral Home, Savanna, with President Konrad Radke officiating. A visitation will be held from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. Monday April 19, 2010 at Law- Jones Funeral Home, Savanna. Cremation rites will follow the service.
Richard was born June 9, 1947 in Savanna to Charles and Margaret (Hartman) Davenport. Richard married Jean (Koch) Zeeryp on June 14, 1985.
Richard served as an Aircraft Mechanic in the United States Air force. He retired from the Union Pacific Railroad on July 31, 2007 after 34 years of service. His hobbies included fishing, playing with his CB radio, bowling, gardening, and spending time with his family including his beloved “Jack Russell” dogs. Richard really enjoyed his time taking his grandchildren to Disneyland.
Richard is survived by his wife Jean; a daughter Amy (Jesse) Fosdick of Savanna; three sons, Eric (Lynn) Zeeryp of Savanna, Timmy (Michelle) Davenport of Princeton, Iowa, and Steven (Jennifer) Davenport of Clinton, Arkansas; sixteen grandchildren; two brothers, David (Debbie) Davenport of Savanna, James (Sue) Davenport of Endeavor, Wisconsin; a brother-in-law, James Letcher of Fulton, Illinois; a sister, Lynne (Arden) Weaver of Savanna. His best buddies “Spanky” and “Skeeter” his Jack Russell Terriers. Richard was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, one sister and a grandson.
