Palmer C. Dauphin, age 94 of Savanna, Illinois, died Tuesday, February 16, 2010 at FHN Memorial Hospital, Freeport, Illinois. A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m., Friday, February 19, 2010 at Law-Jones Funeral Home, Savanna. Reverend Michael Jones of Wesley Methodist Church, Stockton, Illinois will officiate. Burial will take place in the Savanna Township Cemetery, Savanna. A visitation will be held from 9:30-11:00 a.m., prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Carroll County 4-H Federation, 807 D S. Clay Street, Mt. Carroll, IL 61053 in Palmer’s honor.

Palmer was born on January 20, 1916, the son of Victor and Mattie (Palmer) Dauphin in Woodland Township, Savanna, Illinois. Palmer attended Union Grove School, rural Savanna and received a G.E.D. in 1971. On April 5, 1939 Palmer married Margaret L. Mielke in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Palmer loved farming and operated a farm in Savanna for many years. He was a Fieldman for Carroll County A.S.C.S.; an agent for Town & Country Real Estate, an Assessor for Savanna Township; Palmer also worked for Fulrath Oil Company and the Railroad Express.

Palmer was elected to the Carroll County Board and an initial member of the first “911” committee. He served as a School Board Director at Union Grove School; was on various extension committees; volunteered as a 4-H leader; was a Farm Bureau Director and a charter member of the Savanna Ambulance committee.

In his youth Palmer enjoyed hunting and fishing. He also liked to garden and share his bounty with family and friends. Palmer enjoyed people, politics and playing cards. In 1939 and 1940, he won the Carroll County Corn Picking championship. Most of all, Palmer cherished the time spent with his family and friends.

Palmer will be sadly missed by his wife, Margaret of Mount Carroll; one son, Keith (Wadeen) Dauphin of Savanna; two daughters, Carol Carey of Rockford, Illinois and Lois (Kim) Kauffman of Savanna; three grandsons grandchildren, Alan Carey, Brian (Karen) Dauphin and Brad (Amy) Kauffman; four granddaughters Angela Dauphin, Patricia (Randy) Locke, Michelle Kauffman and Linda (Steve) Smith; nine great grandchildren; one step-granddaughter, Lori (Darrell) Barrett; two step- great grandchildren; one brother; Fred (Geraldine) Dauphin; one sister, Hazel Brinkmeier; and one sister in-law, Jean Dauphin.

Palmer was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son; three brothers, Paul Dauphin, Ben Dauphin and Victor Dauphin; and two sisters, Lessetta Seitz and Dorothy Malone.
