Oscar Jewell “Junior” Brown, Jr. age 84 of Chadwick, Illinois died on Wednesday, May 1, 2013 at CGH Medical Center, Sterling, Illinois. Cremation rites will be accorded. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, May 6, 2013 at Law-Jones Funeral Home, Chadwick. Burial of his cremated remains will take place in the Chadwick Cemetery. A memorial gathering will be held from 10:00-11:00 a.m., prior to the service at the funeral home. A memorial fund has been established.
Junior was born at home on January 27, 1929, the son of Oscar and Jewell (Rice) Brown, Sr. in Conant, Illinois. He attended Chadwick High School and graduated with the Class of 1947. Junior married Cleo M. Weber on June 19, 1948 in the First Evangelical Lutheran Church, Chadwick, Illinois.
Junior farmed most of his life, beginning with Weber Farmer Service in Chadwick, Illinois. He later rented a farm near Mount Carroll, Illinois. Junior milked up to forty cow’s everyday, until retiring and moving back to Chadwick in 1988. He was a member of the Carroll County Mounted Patrol and was active within the farming community. Even after retiring, Junior always kept current on farm prices. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially fishing, coon hunting and tractor pulls. Most of all, Junior treasured spending time with his family and watching his grandchildren play sports.
Junior will be dearly missed by his wife of sixty-four years, Cleo; two daughters, Bonnie (Rodney) Gruenwald of Chadwick, Illinois and Vicky (Tim Stanton) Jones of Mount Carroll, Illinois; six grandchildren, Doug Jones of Milledgeville, Illinois, Jamie Jones of Chicago, Illinois, Ty (April Lutz) Gruenwald of Monroe, Wisconsin, Travis (Niki) Gruenwald of Onalaska, Wisconsin, Kristi Jones of Dixon, Illinois and Tony (Sheryll) Gruenwald of Abilene, Texas; six great-grandchildren, Cameron, Kalie, Jasmine, Dominic, Bailee and Zander; one sister, Wanda (Robert) Stewart of Chadwick, Illinois and several nieces and nephews.
Junior was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Edward.
