Orvin E. Petersen, age 84 of Miles, Iowa, died on Thursday, May 3, 2012 at The Alverno Nursing Center, Clinton. A funeral service will be held 10:00 a.m., Monday, May 7, 2012 at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Preston with Pastor Gregory Geier officiating. Burial will take place in the Andover Cemetery, Andover, Iowa. A visitation will be held from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m., Sunday, May 6, 2012 at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Preston. A memorial fund has been established in Orvin’s memory.
Orvin was born on August 7, 1927, the son of Ernest and Bernetta (Hagge) Petersen in Andover, Iowa. He was raised in Andover and attended school in Andover and Miles. Orvin married Esther L. Petersen on November 28, 1945 in the Zion Church, Clinton, Iowa.
Orvin farmed in Miles and the surrounding area for over fifty years. After retiring, Orvin worked maintenance at the Plum River Golf Course in Preston. Orvin and his wife are longtime members of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church. Orvin was a member of the Clinton Moose Lodge and the Jackson County Farm Bureau. He loved to dance with his wife, Esther and they were members of the Polka Club of Iowa. Orvin loved farming, working on his lawn and garden and playing cards. Most of all, Orvin loved spending time with his family and friends.
Orvin will be dearly missed by his wife, Esther of Miles; one son, Terry (Sherri) of Miles; a daughter in-law, Diane Petersen of DeWitt, Iowa; five grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren; and one sister, Shirley (Lester) Greve of Sabula, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Gerald Petersen; one brother, Arlo and an infant son, Steven.
