Orville Ernest Melancon, Sr., age 79, of Hanover, Illinois died Friday, December 28, 2012 at home surrounded by his loving family. A funeral service will be held 6:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 2, 2012 at the Law-Jones Funeral Home, Hanover, with Father Noel Jacob officiating. Visitation will be held from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 2, 2012, prior to the service, at the funeral home. Memorials may be made in Orville’s memory for FHN Hospice.
Orville was born September 21st, 1933, in Stanton Island, New York to Everett and Dorothea (Stoffer) Melancon. He married Eileen Loll on Novemebr 5th, 1955, in Stewartville, Minnesota. Orville served his country in the Navy for four years, the Navy reserve for two years and the National Guard. While in the service, they knew him as “Mel.” Orville worked for Lockheed-Martin as an Aircraft Machinist, and at the Phoenix Chemical Plant in East Dubuque, Illinois for 23 years.
Orville was a former member of the Lyons Club, as well as a past 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed fishing, bowling, woodworking and spending time with his family.
Orville will be dearly missed by his wife, Eileen; four sons, Kim (Ada) Melancon of Galena, Illinois, Kevin Melancon of South Dakota, Orville Jr. (Andrea) Melancon of Hanover, Kyle (Janet) Melancon of Chicago, Illinois; Daughter Regina Melancon and Richard Melby of LaCrosse, Wisconsin; 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; one brother Everett Melancon of Littleton, Colorado, and one sister, Marjorie Williams of Selina, California. Orville was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Richard Melancon, and a grandson Richard Melancon, Jr..
