Orville Bowers Jr.

Orville G. "Gill" Bowers, Jr., age 67 of Savanna, died Friday, November 21, 2014, at Big Meadows Nursing Home in Savanna, Illinois. Cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial gathering will be held on December 7, 2014, at the Whiskey River Saloon, 521 Main Street, Savanna, IL. A memorial fund has been established in Orville’s memory. Orville was born on October 28, 1947, in Dixon, Illinois, the son of Orville “Nook” and Marge (Shafer) Bowers. He worked as a proud Union Carpenter for Local 792 of Rockford, Illinois, working on such projects as the Byron Nuclear Plant and the Thomson Prison. He often visited Madison, Wisconsin, for various projects as well. Orville loved to ride motorcycles and enjoyed traveling to Florida. Most of all, he loved to spend time with his family and friends.
Orville is survived by two daughters, Leann (Tom) Jacobs and Brookie Bowers; a brother, Gary Bowers; three grandsons; two granddaughters; and his great friends, Roger Pritchard and TJ Coyle. He was preceded in death by both parents, and a son, Orville “Keith” Sr.
