Omar C. Wurster, age 101, of Elizabeth, Illinois passed away Thursday, May 24, 2007 at the Elizabeth Nursing Home, Elizabeth, Illinois. Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 29, 2007, at the Trinity Lutheran Church, Derinda, Illinois, with Reverend Kurt Hansen officiating. Burial will be in the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, Derinda. Friends may call from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. prior to the funeral service. A Memorial fund has been established in Omar’s honor.
Omar was born May 2, 1906 on the family farm in Woodbine Township, Illinois, the son of Christoph S. and Emile C. (Rath) Wurster. Omar attended Bethel Grade School in rural Elizabeth, Illinois. On January 24, 1936, Omar married Grace Eacker in Pearl City, Illinois. She passed away November 17, 2001.
Omar farmed all of his life in the Woodbine Township area. He very much enjoyed going to Stock Car races and Demolition Derbys. Omar was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, Derinda, Illinois. Upon reaching the age of 100 years, Omar received a Happy Birthday card from the President of the United States signed by President Bush and his wife Laura. He also received Recognition from the State of Illinois celebrating his 100th birthday, with a letter from Jim Sacia, State Representative of 89th District Illinois.
Omar will be dearly missed by his daughter, Wilma Wurster of Elizabeth; one sister, Esther Hachtel of Rock Island, Illinois; and many neices and nephews.
Preceded in death by his wife; parents; and siblings, Alvin, Raymond, Ruth and Morris Wurster.
