Olive J. St. Clair, age 93, of Chadwick, Illinois, died Monday, March 31, 2008, at Good Samaritan Nursing Home, Mount Carroll, Illinois. Funeral services will be held 10:30 A.M. Thursday, April 3, 2008 at SS. John & Catherine Catholic Church, Mt. Carroll, Illinois with Father Atto as Celebrant. Burial will be in Chadwick Cemetery, Chadwick. Visitation will be held from 5-7:00 P.M. Wednesday, April 2, 2008 at the Frank Law-Jones Funeral Home, Chadwick, Illinois. Memorials maybe directed to SS. John & Catherine Catholic Church, Mt. Carroll, Illinois in Olive’s honor.
Olive J. St. Clair was born August 21, 1914, in Fairhaven, Illinois, the daughter of Roy and Anna Belle (Isenhart) Mackey. Her mother passed away in October of 1927, so Olive went to live with a great aunt in Beloit, Wisconsin. She came back to Chadwick and married Arthur St. Clair on August 24, 1932. Arthur died March 1, 1990.
Olive worked as a telephone operator during the year of 1944. She and Arthur farmed in the Chadwick area, living on two different farms. After moving to town, Olive worked as a clerk at Mest and Temple Grocery Store, Ron’s Super Value and Harold Frank’s Super Value. She retired after twenty-one years.
Olive was a member of Saints John and Catherine Catholic Church in Mount Carroll. She was also a member of the Ladies Society at the Church, and a past member of Chadwick Fireman’s Auxiliary and the Carroll County Riding Club. She had been a 4-H leader. Olive enjoyed working puzzles, writing letters and baking for friends and family.
Olive is survived by two daughters, Marlene (Ray) Burkholder of Lanark, Illinois, and Patricia (Gary) Turney of Chadwick, Illinois; seven grandchildren, Raymond (Mary) Burkholder, Timothy (Tammy) Burkholder, Teresa Stajcar, Christina (John) La Pointe, Elizabeth (James) Baclet, Peggy Sue Chase, Lee (Karla) Turney; and eighteen great–grandchildren. Olive was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and two daughters, Shirley Ann St. Clair and Karen Lynn St. Clair.
