Olive “Ollie” V. Gilbert, age 99, of Savanna, Illinois, passed away Monday, May 8, 2017 at Big Meadows Nursing Home in Savanna. As per Ollie’s wishes there will be no visitation. A private family graveside service will be conducted at Oak Hill Cemetery in Mt. Carroll, Illinois.
Olive Viola Roberts was born May 10, 1917 at Big Cut near Wacker in Mt. Carroll, the daughter of James E. “Ed” and Eleanor (Scott) Roberts. She attended Hickory Grove Grade School and graduated from Mt. Carroll High School. On December 18, 1946, she married Charles V. Gilbert in Chicago, Illinois. Charles passed away April 28, 2012. Ollie was a homemaker, and had been employed at the Savanna Ordnance Depot and Blue Front Hardware Store in Savanna prior to her marriage.
Ollie treasured the natural wonders and beauty of nature, especially beautiful sunsets over the river. She also enjoyed traveling, Walleye and trout fishing in Canada, crocheting and reading. Ollie loved spending time with family and friends.
Ollie is survived by a niece, Eleanor (Robert) Tomman of Polo, Illinios; two nephews, Charles (Jan) Roberts of Holly, Michigan and Lester Roberts of Shannon, Illinois; several great and great-great nieces and nephews and cousin. Ollie was preceded in death by her husband; a nephew, Scott Michael and her brother, Scottie.
