Norris L. Hartman, Sr., age 76, of Mt. Carroll, Illinois died suddenly Monday, April 14, 2008 at Mercy Medical Center North, Clinton, Iowa. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 18, 2008 at the Frank-Law-Jones Funeral Home, Mt. Carroll with Reverend Michael Jones of the Wesely United Methodist Church, Stockton officiating. Burial will be in Spring Lake Cemetery, Savanna, with Military Rites accorded by the Savanna VFW. A visitation will be held from 5:00 - 8:00pm Thursday, April 17, 2008 at the Frank-Law-Jones Funeral Home, Mt. Carroll. Norris was born January 16, 1932 in York Township, Illinois, the son of Henry L. and Anna M. (Traum) Hartman. He attended the Thomson and Savanna Schools. Norris served in the US Army during the Korean War. On June 4, 1964, Norris Married Shirley Krughel in Geneva, Illinois.
Norris worked in construction for many years. He was a member of the Laborers Union Local #727 in Dixon, Illinois. Years ago he worked for the Northwestern Railroad, Clinton, Iowa.
Most of all, Norris loved making hay on the family farm. He always enjoyed family reunions and the time he spent with his grandchildren. They enjoyed Grandpa giving them tractor rides, hayrides and attending their sporting events. Whenever they spent time with Grandpa, they would get to top-off their day with ice cream. Norris also liked woodworking, playing cards and visiting with friends.
Norris will be dearly missed by his wife, Shirley of Mt. Carroll; four daughters, Kimberly (Joseph) McCray of Mt. Carroll; Michelle (Michael) Murin of Grayslake, Illinois; Malinda “Mindy” (Thomas) Ritchie of Savanna; and Christine (Msgt John) Reiland of Eielson, Alaska; three sons, Guy (Teresa) Pidde of Fulton, Illinois, Kevin (Imelda) Null of Pelican Rapids, Minnesota and Norris (Julie) Hartman of Fulton; twenty-six grandchildren; twenty-six great grandchildren; five sisters, Lucille Ven Huizen of Clinton, Iowa, Helen Kramer of Sterling, Illinois, Betty (Albert) Notz of Mt. Carroll, Luella (John) Garrison of Sterling and Darlene Vos of Morrison, Illinois; and a brother, Norman (Gilda) Hartman of Fulton.
Norris is preceded in death by both parents; two great grandchildren, Logan Michael and Faith; and ten brothers, Willard, Leonard, Floyd, Arnold, Raymond, Louvell, Warren, Henry, Virgil and Ivan.
