Norma Jean Ruchotzke, age 78, of Miles, Iowa, formerly of Sabula, Iowa, died Thursday, March 10, 2011, at Mercy Medical Center North, Clinton, Iowa. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, March 14, 2011, at the Calvary Lutheran Church in Sabula, with Rev. Robert Krueger officiating. Burial will follow in the Miles Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 13, at the Calvary Lutheran Church, Sabula.
Norma was born May 8, 1932, in Hampshire Township, Hauntown, Iowa the daughter of Albert and Helen (Lass) Rathje. She attended Hauntown Country Schools and graduated from the Sabula High School with the Class of 1950. On October 14, 1950 she married Lyle Ruchotzke at the Calvary Lutheran Church, Sabula. Lyle preceded her in death on January 27, 1996.
Norma worked at the Sabula Speaker Factory for many years and also worked at the Sabula VFW. She was a member of the Calvary Lutheran Church, Calvary Lutheran Women’s Circle, and the VFW Auxiliary. She enjoyed embroidery and crossword puzzles. Most of all Norma enjoyed being a homemaker and treasured the time she spent with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Norma is survived and lovingly remembered by a daughter, Vicki (Larry) Johnson of Miles; two sons, Kim (Margo) Ruchotzke of Sabula and Kenneth Ruchotzke of Miles; five grandchildren, Tracy (Shawn) Trenkamp, Lisa (Eric) Holdgrafer, Corey (Tammy) Johnson, Stacy (Brian) Wentz, Corinn (Troy Shannon) Ruchotzke; eight great grandchildren, Jarrett, Colton, Nolan, Avery, Owen, Cassidy, Ryan, and Mitchell; and her sister, Carol Jacobsen of Clinton, Iowa.
Norma was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lyle Ruchotzke, a brother, John Rathje and her granddaughter, Erin Ruchotzke.
