Nancy M. Wurster

Nancy M. Wurster, age 80, of Savanna, IL, passed away Tuesday, April 7, 2020, at MercyOne Hospital in Clinton, IA. A graveside service will be held on a later date at St. Peter’s Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery (Mosquito Hill) in Savanna.

Nancy was born August 22, 1939, in Rock Island, IL, the daughter of Lloyd and Mae (Hamilton) Pough. Growing up locally, she attended Savanna schools. She spent a number of years working for Eaton Corp., then retired from Swiss Colony. She also worked as a cook at Charlie’s II in Mt. Carroll. On March 3, 1961, Nancy married Wayne Wurster, Sr. They celebrated 50 years of marriage before Wayne’s death in 2011.
Nancy was a lover of bingo. If there was a game, she’d be there! She also loved her cats and was a lifelong member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, cherishing her faith and her family. Her favorite thing in life was spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who she loved dearly.

Nancy will be dearly missed by her sons. Wayne Wurster, Jr., of Savanna, IL, and Jim Wurster, of Savanna, IL; daughter, Denise Speers, of Mt. Morris, IL; seven grandchildren, Nathan, Chelsea and Lillie, Cassandra and Jimmer (with whom Nancy had a special bond), Destiny (Jim), and Michael; 10 great-grandchildren, Avery and Aubrey, Alayna and Connor, Jonathan, Paige, Cole and Charlie, and Wyatt, Maci, and Wade ; brother, Bill (Janet) Hamilton, of Savanna, IL; and brother-in-law, Ray Shafer, of Savanna, IL; sisters-in-law, Gloria Hamilton, of Savanna, IL and Paulette Hamilton, of Savanna, IL. Nancy is preceded in death by her parents, Lloyd and Mae; husband, Wayne Wurster, Sr.; sons, Michael Speers and Lynn Speers; brothers, Terry Hamilton and Lloyd Hamilton, Jr.; and sisters Carol Hamilton and Sharon Schaffer.
