Nancy May Virtue

Nancy May Virtue, age 73, of Hanover, Illinois, passed away Sunday, July 2, 2017, at home. Cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial service will be held on at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, July 22, 2017 at the Bethel Evangelical Congregational Church in Dixon, Illinois. A memorial visitation will be held at 9:00 a.m. prior to the service at the church. Burial of her cremated remains will take place at 7:00 p.m., August 11, 2017 in the Log Church Cemetery, rural Hanover. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established for the mission work of Bethel Church.
Nancy was born March 18, 1944, the daughter of Albert and Jessie (Edgerton) Garner in Galena, Illinois. She attended Hanover High School and graduated with the Class of 1962. She later went on to attend the University of Dubuque and later Northern Illinois University. Nancy married Jerry Virtue on July 2, 1966 in the United Presbyterian Church, Hanover.
Nancy worked at Faith Christian School from 1981 till retirement as an Art and Physical Ed teacher and the school librarian. Nancy was an active member of the Bethel Evangelical Church serving on the Mission Commission and the Work Team Committee .She also served at the Rock River Bible Camp as a counselor and cook. Nancy was a talented seamstress, artist and cake decorator. She also loved traveling, cooking and reading. Nancy and her husband Jerry participated in church mission work team projects to the Glenn Allen AK medical center, Kentucky Mission Church, New Orleans Hurricane Katrina cleanup, several Costa Rica churches and the Mexico Children’s Homes near Monterrey. Above all, she loved spending time with her family and friends.
Nancy will be missed by her husband, Jerry, of Hanover; three children, Suzanne (Bryan) Collins of Rockford, Illinois, Kristin Noelle (Keith) Hill of Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin; and Richard (Amy) Virtue of Hanover, Illinois; and three grandchildren, David Virtue, and WestonHill andKendallHill. She was preceded in death by her parents; a granddaughter, Abbygail Virtue; and one brother, Jerry Garner.
