Nancy Gelwicks, age 66, of Savanna, Illinois, died Monday, June 27, 2011, at her home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 30, 2011, at the First United Methodist Church in Savanna, with Rev. Larry Thomson officiating. Burial will follow in the Savanna Township Cemetery, Savanna. Visitation will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 30, prior to the funeral at the church. Memorials may be directed to the First United Methodist Church, Savanna, Hospice Care of America, 3815 N. Mulford, Rockford, Illinois, or the American Cancer Soiciety.
Nancy was born July 31, 1944, in Morrison, Illinois, the daughter of John and Stella (Vanderlaan) Kramer. She graduated from Thomson High School. Nancy married Robert Johnson on April 29, 1965. He preceded her in death on June 30, 1968.
Nancy worked at Swiss Colony in Savanna and farmed for many years in the Mt. Carroll, Illinois, area. She was an extremely hard worker her entire life. Nancy was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Savanna. She loved flower gardening and her yard always looked beautiful. Nancy was also a talented baker who enjoyed cooking for her friends and family. Nancy had a good heart and loved visiting with people, even staying very active during her battle with cancer.
Nancy is survived and lovingly remembered by two sister, Virginia (Jay) Buikema of Sterling, Illinois, and Gladys DeWeerdt of Rockford, Illinois; one brother, Donald (Connie) Kramer of Savanna, Illinois; several nieces and nephews, and many close friends.
Nancy was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Robert Johnson; two daughters, Tamie and Robin Johnson; and one brother, Harold Kramer.
