Myrtle C. Mitchell age 94, of Hanover, Illinois died Tuesday, July 6, 2010 at the Elizabeth Nursing Home. Funeral Services will held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 10, 2010 at the Hanover United Methodist Church with Reverend Jeff Baer officiating. Burial will take place in Evergreen Cemetery, Hanover. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. Saturday, prior to the service at the Hanover United Methodist Church. Memorials may be given to the Elizabeth Nursing Home in Myrtle’s memory.
Myrtle was born October 26, 1915 in Hanover, the daughter of Charles E. and Florence D. (Graham) Robinson. She attended Hanover High School and graduated with the Class of 1933. On March 12, 1936, Myrtle married Maynard E. Mitchell in Savanna, Illinois. Maynard died December 31, 2000.
Myrtle and Maynard owned and operated Mitchell’s Café and the Ben Franklin Store in Hanover for many years. Myrtle was a member of the Hanover United Methodist Church and a past choir director of the Church. She also belonged to the Order of the Eastern Star and was a past Matron. Myrtle enjoyed crocheting, playing bridge with friends and traveling with Maynard. She loved having family gatherings and was known as a wonderful hostess.
Myrtle will be dearly missed by her daughter, Charlene (Robert) Kevern of Rockford, Illinois; two sons, Phillip (Merilyn) Mitchell of Milton, Wisconsin and Clifford (Jane) Mitchell of Somerset, Kentucky; nine grandchildren; twenty-two great grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; two sisters, Ruth (Wallace) Landis of Lansing, Michigan and Jill Smith of Polo, Illinois; a brother Jack (Anne) Robinson of Winter Haven, Florida; several nieces and nephews, including a special niece, Barb Estrada. Myrtle is preceded in death by her husband, Maynard; two sisters, Gwendolyn Nickerson and Charlotte Tracy; and two brothers, Dick and Kenneth Robinson. Myrtle’s family wishes to thank the Elizabeth Nursing Home Staff and FHN Hospice Staff for their loving care.
