Myra E. Sloan, age 91, of Thomson, Illinois, died Friday, April 30, 2010, at the Bickford Cottages in Clinton, Iowa. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 8, 2010, at the Law – Jones Funeral Home in Thomson, with Pastor Paul Fritz officiating. Burial will follow in the Lower York Cemetery, Thomson. Visitation will be held from 10 to 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 8, prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the Salvation Army.
Myra was born on January 6, 1919, in Thornton, Arkansas, the daughter of L.E. and Gertie (Smith) Kindle. She graduated from Sterling Township High School with the Class of 1936. Myra was united in marriage to John P. Sloan on November 20, 1943, in Sterling, Illinois. He preceded her in death on December 13, 2006.
Myra worked for several years at the Carroll County Review as a news reporter and also bookkeeping. She was a member of the Thomson United Methodist Church, the Thomson Women’s Club where she was a past officer, the Palisades Ladies Golf League, and was active in many school organizations while her children attended. Myra loved wintering in Florida and golfing, and cherished the time she spent with her family.
Myra is survived and lovingly remembered by one daughter, Jill (Ed) Nett of Davenport, Iowa; one son, Richard (Julie) Sloan of Eugene, Oregon; four grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Myra was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one sister, and five brothers.
