Murnice Dittmar, age 90, of Elizabeth, Illinois, died Tuesday, December 13, 2016, at the Elizabeth Nursing Home. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, December 16, 2016 at the First United Methodist Church in Elizabeth. Burial will take place in the Elizabeth Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Thursday, December 15, 2016 at Law-Jones Funeral Home, Elizabeth.
Murnice was born August 14, 1926, the son of Charles and Edna (Prisk) Dittmar, on the family farm in Woodbine Township. He attended Stockton High School and graduated with the Class of 1944. On December 7, 1947, Murnice married Betty Bleakley in Elizabeth. They celebrated 47 years of marriage until Betty’s death in 1995.
Murnice proudly served his country in the United States Navy during World War II in the Pacific Theater. He was a lifelong farmer with a passion for raising cattle, and took great pride in serving beef at the table. He was a member of the Jo Daviess County Livestock Feeders Association and the Stockton American Legion. He loved to travel and boat on the Mississippi and Apple Canyon Lake.
Murnice will be dearly missed by two sons, James (Karen) Dittmar of Elizabeth, Donald (Wendy) Dittmar of Waukesha, Wisconsin; two daughters, Judith (Tom) Schuldt of Stockton, Illinois, Merri (Kevin) Spars of Bolingbrook, Illinois; nine grandchildren, Terry (Scott) Haas, Jeff (Heidi) Schuldt, Chris (James) Blanton, Jessica (Damion) Jedlicka, Peter (Shawn Weatherford) Dittmar, Joe (Lori) Dittmar, Laura Dittmar, Emily Dittmar, and Katy Dittmar; and eight great-grandchildren, Alex, Jenna, Kyle, Lydia, Max, Anna, Jack and Jacob. Murnice is preceded in death by his wife, Betty, and his parents, Charles and Edna.
