Mitchell Glazier, age 24, the son of Scott and April Glazier of Thomson, Illinois passed away Tuesday, December 12, 2023 at the University of Iowa Hospitals after a sudden illness. The doctors and staff did everything they could to battle the unexpected Hodgkin’s Lymphoma diagnosis. Mitchell joins his mom, April, in heaven, as she passed from an extended illness on September 11, 2023.
A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held 1 – 5pm Thursday, January 4, 2024 at Law Jones Funeral home, Mt. Carroll, with a service for family and friends at 5pm. His ashes will be buried at Lower York Cemetery, Thomson in a private family service. A memorial has been established for a scholarship, in partnership with Metform.
When Mitchell was born November 14, 1999, he weighed just 2lbs and 2 oz. He was called a miracle. His mom, April, worked hard to bring him home early from the hospital. By the time the due date arrived, Mitchell had gained enough to be ahead of the curve. He continued right on through life with a great energy, he didn’t give up on anything.
When Mitchell was part of the group, everyone felt a little happier and was glad he was there. Mitchell was well-liked and respected at Metform. For the past year-and-a-half, he worked as a Tool Design Engineer. He would say, “I love it there, the people are like family.”
He is a 2022 graduate of the University of Iowa Hawkeyes, receiving a degree in Mechanical Engineering. In 2018 he graduated from West Carroll High School where he excelled in baseball and football. He was smart and hardworking.
“Mitchell became friends with everyone he met.” He was kind and likeable.
He had the fortune of a close-knit family. Growing up loving the outdoors, playing on sports teams with Dad coaching, and exploring the world while traveling with family. Mitch loved life. He learned a lot from his parents and grandparents.
In the summers while he was growing up, Mitchell would work alongside his cousin, Matthew, at Fin & Feather Camp Ground, helping Grandpa and Grandma with chores and just about everything else. This was like extracurricular activity for Mitchell, he learned to drive, hunt, fish and appreciate life, from a grandparent’s perspective. Grandpa was with him when he got his first duck, squirrel and deer. He was happy outdoors.
When April became ill, Mitchell chipped right-in and helped Dad care for Mom. Through all the challenges, he showed true strength and love.
Mitchell is survived by his father, Scott Glazier of Thomson; his grandparents, Jerry (Sharon) Matous of Thomson and Janet Glazier of Galena; two uncles and two aunts, Travis (Trisha) Glazier of Fulton, JR (Becky) Matous of Sabula, Iowa, Penny Kirschbaum of Burr Ridge, Illinois and Kelly (Doug) Jergenson of Virginia. He is preceded in death by his mother, April, and his grandfather, Alvie Glazier.
Mitchell was blessed in this life, and now lives in the next. He would want us to remember to keep the light bright. Never give up. And when you walk in a room, make others happier. He was a miracle.
