Miriam Mclean

June 9, 1923 — September 24, 2021

Miriam McLean was married to the love of her life for 51 years. During WWII she gave up everything to follow her Air Force pilot around the world. Miriam Kennedy McLean was born June 9, 1923 in Chance, Alabama and passed away Friday, September 24, 2021 at the age of 98.

She is survived by her four daughters, Meredith (David) Blacknall of Springville, AL, Melodie (David) McCallie of Springville, Elizabeth (Michael) Roberts of Glouster, VA and Valerie (Mark) Murray also of Glouster; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Elma and Leo Kennedy of Selma, AL; her husband, Ralph L. McLean of Elizabeth, IL; and by her sister, Mary Reynolds of Tuscaloosa, AL.

Miriam and Ralph lived in France and Okinawa and vacationed all over Europe. “Gran” loved writing letters and journaling throughout their life. She was devoted to the Word and strongly believed in her faith. She adored her family and they adored her. Miriam loved needlework and crossword puzzles. She was fashionable and her children were dressed to the nines.

After her travels, she and her husband retired in Elizabeth, IL which was the home of her husband’s mother. They lived there together for many years. They were very involved in the local Methodist Church. Gran volunteered in the community, sang in the choir and visited her four children located in Alabama and Virginia. After her husband’s death, she eventually moved to Alabama. She departed from this life to rejoin her loved ones and to be united with her Lord and Savior. Gran is greatly missed and most loved by her family.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, October 7, 2021 at the Elizabeth Cemetery, Elizabeth, Illinois.
