Mildred Ila Rummel

Mrs. Mildred Ila Rummel, age 87, of Scales Mound, Illinois (formerly of Hanover, Illinois), passed away on December 7, 2010 at her home. A Funeral Service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, December 11, 2010 at the United Presbyterian Church, Hanover, Illinois, with Pastor Gary Kirst of the Galena Bible Church officiating. Burial will be in Log Church Cemetery, Hanover. A Visitation will be held from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. on Friday, December 10, 2010 at the Law-Jones Funeral Home, Hanover. Memorials may be given to the Alzheimer’s Association in Mildred’s memory.
Mildred was born on October 4, 1923, the daughter of Joseph Blaine and Jessie Lola (Walker) Pressly, in Washington County, Iowa. She graduated from Ainsworth High School with the Class of 1940, and later attended Monmouth College. Mildred married Benjamin H. Rummel on June 3, 1948 in Ainsworth, Iowa. Benjamin died on June 7, 1985.
Mildred moved to Hanover in 1948 and was a teacher’s aide at the Hanover Elementary School for 26 years. After retiring, she continued to volunteer at the school for an additional 11 years." Mrs. Rummel" loved her time spent working with the children and her co-workers. Mildred completely retired in 2003 and moved to Scales Mound to live with her daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and Jim. Mildred was a longtime member of the United Presbyterian Church in Hanover and was most recently attending the Galena Bible Church in Galena, Illinois. While attending the United Presbyterian Church, Mildred served as pianist, organist, choir and children’s music director, and was active in Bible Blenders. Mildred enjoyed the outdoors, including long walks along the river and flower and vegetable gardening. She also enjoyed an occasional jigsaw puzzle and word search. Most of all, Mildred cherished the time she spent with her family.
Mildred will be dearly missed by four daughters; Paula Howlett of DeKalb, Illinois, Cheryl (David) Ross of DeKalb, Carolyn (Jim) Gephart of Scales Mound and Stacy Rummel of DeKalb; four grandchildren, Kristina Ross of DeKalb, James (Emily) Gephart of Roscoe, Illinois, Brian Gephart of Scales Mound and Kathleen Howlett of DeKalb,and two great grandaughters, Cora and Calista Gephart of Roscoe. She will also be greatly missed by two step-grandchildren, Lori (Kurt) Daine and David (Raynelle) Howlett; one special nephew, Bill (Janet) Kilpatrick and one niece-in-law, Anne Kilpatrick.Mildred was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Benjamin; two sisters, Erma Kilpatrick and Mary Ruth Chapman; and one nephew, John Kilpatrick.
