Mildred Meyerhofer

Mildred Meyerhofer, age 93, of Elizabeth, Illinois, passed away Sunday, February 12, 2017, at the Elizabeth Nursing Home in Elizabeth. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, February 17, 2017 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Elizabeth. Burial will take place in the Elizabeth Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 9:00 – 11:00 a.m., Friday, February 17, 2017 at the church prior to the service. A memorial fund has been established in Mildred’s memory.
Mildred was born April 12, 1923 on the family farm near Stockton, Illinois, the daughter of Howard and Anna (Smith) Breed. She attended Elizabeth High School and graduated with the Class of 1941. On January 1, 1944, Mildred married the love of her life Edward “Ed” Meyerhofer in Elizabeth. They celebrated 58 years together before Ed’s passing in 2002. Mildred worked at the Savanna Army Depot in Savanna, Illinois as a secretary for a few years. She later worked for Stan’s Grocery Store in Elizabeth. Mildred’s biggest joy was being a homemaker to her family.
Mildred was a lifelong member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church and dedicated her time to the Ladies Guild, Altar Guild, the Quilters, and teaching Vacation Bible School. Mildred enjoyed gardening, and watching the Chicago Cubs. She also enjoyed fishing and traveled California in winter with her husband Ed. Most of all, Mildred treasured babysitting many kids and grandkids and attending grandkids sporting events.
Mildred will be dearly missed by her son, Dennis (Judy) Meyerhofer of Elizabeth; daughter, Maggie Palmer of Elizabeth; 9 grandchildren, John (Cindy) Meyerhofer, Jay (Renee) Meyerhofer, Shellie Callan, Jackie (Joel) Schultz, Lisa (Mike) Kolb, Tim (Suzie) Meyerhofer, Matt (Danielle) Kloss, Tony (Sheree) Kloss, Teri (Donald) Shellenberger; 24 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren. Mildred was preceded in death by her husband, Ed and her parents.
